Animal Venue
Once again we have assembled the largest selection of Scottish animals of any games and festival held in California! Let’s start with our largest animal, the majestic Clydesdale horse. Our black Clydesdales are from the Jack London Ranch in Glen Ellen, brought to us by Neil Shephard. Look for Neil and his team to be putting on a demonstration in the main ceremony area after the opening ceremonies. Tina and Ben Riordan bring us our Scottish Highland cattle. This will be their third year with us, and we’re glad to have them back. Our Dexter cattle (actually from Ireland) come to us from the Green River Ranch. Thanks to Bill and Dusty Kirkland for bringing them out, along with their Shetland pony. Our Scottish sheep come from the Spin Web Ranch, thanks to Jean Franklin. Our other sheep are brought to us by Beatrice Gray. The California Hawking Club is back with a Birds of Prey display.
We have assembled 15 different dog breeds this year, from Border collies to Scottish Deerhounds, from Gordon Setters to Shetland Sheepdogs—we have them all in Area 16.
The Sacramento Valley Scottish Games and Festival has always been known for its high-caliber entertainment, and our Frisbee dogs are no exception. Back with us again are the world famous Hennigan Spinning Frisbee K9s. This group of 10 Border collies will simply amaze you as they leap, jump and fly through the air. Herb and Saundra Hennigan have been training Border collies since 1990. They have traveled the world and have been seen on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Animal Planet, and Penn & Teller. They have performed during half-time shows for the San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Seattle Sea Hawks and Oakland Raiders. They can also be seen performing every year in the Cavalcade Arena at the California State Fair. Come by and meet the dogs and their owners after the show.
Show times in the main ceremony area begin at _11:15am___. on Saturday only.
Brought back by popular demand…..Sheep Dog Trials. In the Arena you will see Bill Slaven from the Slaven Ranch in Zamora. (Bill was one of the ranchers that was caught in the devastating fire in the Zamora Hills a couple of years ago). The trails will be ongoing through out Sunday.
